The menu at Istanbul Diner Cafe is diverse, offering everything from hearty breakfasts to savory lunches and dinners. The Turkish breakfast is a must-try, with a generous spread of fresh bread, olives, cheese, tomatoes, and eggs cooked to your liking. It’s a great way to start your day and get a taste of authentic Turkish dining. For those who enjoy a more substantial meal, the kebabs here are a standout. The lamb and chicken skewers are grilled to perfection, served with flavorful rice, grilled vegetables, and homemade pita bread.

What sets Istanbul Diner Cafe apart is its dedication to using fresh ingredients and authentic recipes. The owner, who grew up in Turkey, has ensured that every dish served stays true to traditional Turkish cooking methods. For example, the famous Turkish dish, “Iskender Kebab,” is made with tender slices of lamb or chicken, a rich tomato sauce, and a dollop of yogurt, all served over a bed of crispy pita. It’s a dish that perfectly captures the essence of Turkish comfort food, and it's served in generous portions.

The cafe also offers a variety of appetizers that are perfect for sharing. The "Hummus" and "Baba Ganoush" are fan favorites, both made in-house with a perfect blend of spices and flavors. Pair these with a glass of freshly made Turkish tea, and you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Another highlight is the "Sucuklu Yumurta"-a dish of spicy Turkish sausage and eggs that's perfect for a brunch or midday snack.

For dessert, Istanbul Diner Cafe offers traditional Turkish sweets, including "Baklava" and "Kunefe." These pastries, drenched in syrup and filled with pistachios or cheese, are the ideal way to round off any meal. The Baklava, in particular, stands out for its flakiness and balance of sweetness, while the Kunefe offers a unique, indulgent experience with its gooey cheese filling and crispy exterior.

Came to Istanbul Diner with my family absolutely famished, looking for good HALAL Turkish food, and we were pleasantly surprised. The mixed grill was excellent, everything cooked just right, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Unfortunately, we didn’t even get a chance to take a photo of it because we were too hungry! The meats were grilled perfectly, not dry and their sauces were exceptional. What really stood out was the hospitality. The owner, Sulayman, personally checked on us during the meal and even offered us rice pudding (sütlaç), which was a very thoughtful touch. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests. The ambiance is comfortable and welcoming, especially for families. Food quality, service, and overall experience were spot on. Definitely a place where the food is taken seriously and the people make you feel at home. Looking forward to coming back for a HALAL Turkish breakfast spread, inshaAllah, when they offer that!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Istanbul Diner Cafe! Every visit is an absolute pleasure, and a huge part of that is thanks to Richard. He’s one of the most welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind employees I’ve ever encountered. Whether you’re a regular or walking in for the first time, he makes you feel right at home and truly adds to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. The food is unbelievable — every single dish is bursting with flavor, and the meats are always cooked to perfection. Never overdone, never dry… just tender, juicy, and seasoned beautifully. Honestly, there are no bad choices on the menu. Every plate is consistently delicious, and you can tell how much care goes into each recipe. They also offer a great variety of drink options, from traditional Turkish beverages to your usual sodas, teas, bottled water, so there’s something for everyone. The space itself is super accommodating. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick solo lunch or coming with a big group, there’s plenty of seating without ever feeling cramped. Very clean tables and seats. The music playing throughout the restaurant sets a nice vibe — noticeable enough to add energy but never too loud or overbearing. I absolutely love coming here, whether it’s for a quick bite during the day or a cozy dinner at night. Istanbul Cafe has truly become one of my go-to spots in Saugus, and I can’t recommend it enough! I stopped by for lunch today on a whim, because I spotted this cafe from the highway and am so glad that I did. The interior is bright and clean. The staff was super friendly and I ordered the Beef shawarma/doner kebab wrap. It took about 10 mins to prepare and it was delicious! It came with two dipping sauces. My favorite was the orange colored pepper hot sauce. The doner kebab had plenty of meat and just the right amount of veggies for a little crunch. I enjoyed my doner so much that I ordered a lamb adana kebab wrap to go for my dinner, and it was equally amazing.. perfectly cooked and tender! I would rate these wraps as in the top 5 shawarma wraps in Boston. My only criticism is that each wrap is about $15, but I still think it was worth it.

We stopped by Istanbul Diner on Route 1 and were pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. We ordered the lamb plate and the salmon plate, plus a side of falafel—and it was all excellent. The portions were huge (I had to take half my meal home!), and the total with tax, tip, and two bottles of water came to just about $75—well worth it for the quality and amount of food. The falafel was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, and the tzatziki sauce was deliciously fresh and tangy. The lamb was tender, the salmon flavorful, and everything tasted like it was made with care. The diner itself was clean and well-kept, with a comfortable, casual atmosphere. I also really liked that patrons tidy up after themselves—it gives the place a friendly, community feel. We’ll definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu next time. A great local find!

Freshly made Turkish food tucked away in Saugus. Bathroom was very clean and the ingredients look fresh. The bulgur was super soft, unlike some other places I’ve tried. Sauces look home made. I can see why the rating is so high.

My guy Baki gave me a tour of the kitchen, super friendly staff and delicious food. Highlights: -Sauces are all homemade and pairs perfectly with meat. -Homemade rice pudding is made by the boss's wife and is def a must try! -Staff is super friendly and welcoming Food: I got the Istanbul platter which ran me $37 and could easily feed 4 people. You get to try 5 meats prepared in multiple different ways, bread, salad and two types of rice. I brought 3 friends with me, including my wife. They all loved their meals, we got a shwarma bowll and we all had plenty of food to bring home. Apparently they own the Istanbul diner in revere too... which is also rated I think a 4.9. Do yourself a favor and try this place out, do others a favor and leave a review so others can try this amazing restaurant!

What a delightful new addition to Route 1 restaurants! Had the best felafel sandwich that I have had since leaving New York! The service was very welcoming and friendly! The place is super clean. Lots of parking! Getting on and off Route 1 is not a walk in the park, but totally worth it for this truly great family restaurant! Their rice pudding is also quite delish! I will be back soon!

This place is unreal! Food was delicious, owner came over to us and introduced himself. I got the lentil soup, grape leaves, hummus, chicken shish plate and baklava. It came with fresh warm pita too. I went last night and I already want to come back!
